A great day out, half an hour by train, very family friendly, and reasonably priced, with a special ticket called the SALZ  ERLEBNIS TICKET which covers train fare, bus fare, entry to the saltmine, entry to the celt village and museum and entry into the silent night museum.

Get on one of the new trains, then get off at Hallein, just outside the railway station to the left is the bus stop, NO 42  mostly half hour depending on time and day,  go straight up to the saltmine SALZWELTEN, walk along a lane and there's a good shop and cafe inside all prices  found to be better than Salzburg especially for a coffee, book your tour,  then enjoy, the railway getting you in and out, with an amount of walking, and a sail across the salt lake, the tour guides are very good and the lady is very children friendly, and helpful, after finishing there just across the road is the celt village, then if you are feeling fit walk up the hill to the salt church, a very beautiful church, then go back for the bus, and asked to be dropped off at the kelten museum , after visiting this place aim for the church spire and this is where SILENT NIGHT the Christmas carol was first sung and you have free entry into the  stille nacht museum,  then when you have finished look around the village centre, have a meal, coffee or beer, the locals are a great bunch and speak English, then cross the river back towards the railway station, (bahnhof) either road, or follow the shop ones towards the post office, there's a little cafe there just past the river, behind the cheap store

Now if it's winter, there's snow on the hills, so go wrapped up.

If it's summer, there's a chairlift up to the salt church, and plenty of walking up to the durrnberg, and another chairlift, and it gets pretty warm, but there's always somewhere for a drink and the buses are regular.

ENJOY YOURSELF with this place which has only recently become known to the general public from abroad .
