You shouldn’t be afraid of the crime rate when heading to Paget, but aware. Aware of your surrounding and aware of the people you come in contact with. Most crimes against visitors in Bermuda involve property crimes, but you should be aware of your personal safety as well.
Both Britain and the United States have travel advisories suggesting travelers take special caution when traveling to Bermuda. Common crimes include burglaries of hotel rooms, pick pocketing and robberies of travelers. If you are traveling to Paget, here are some precautions to take:
*Never leave your hotel room window open or unlocked. Even if the screen is locked, you are vulnerable. Burglars might simply tear through the screen to get into your room. Shut and lock the window.
*Never leave your hotel room door unlocked and don’t open the door to anyone who hasn’t adequately and properly identified him or her self. Secure all your valuable belongings in the hotel safe, and be sure to notify hotel staff if you are burglarized.
*If you are out at night, don’t carry anything valuable with you and be sure to take care with your surroundings. Travelers are especially vulnerable at night.
*Finally, if you are riding a scooter or moped around Paget, don’t carry a handbag or backpack. This is easy prey for criminals and you might likely find yourself the victim of a crime.
