“Aqua Coconut was the perfect place to stay”

Best Western Coconut Waikiki

I have visited Hawaii many times but always stayed at a Sheraton, Hilton or Hyatt mega-resort Hotel. This trip was very spur-of-the-moment, so I went on-line to look for a great hotel rate. It was there that I found the Aqua Coconut that had a $115 per night AAA rate. I called the hotel directly to get more information and based on the ammenities they described, I booked over the phone. The Aqua Coconut is three blocks from the beach overlooking the Ala Wai Canal and on the same street as the Sheraton Waikiki, Roys and all the shopping of Kalakaua Avenue. It reminded me of a newly rennovated "South Beach-type" boutique hotel. The lobby is modern with a well-designed minimalist theme using white, aqua blue and accents of bright orange and lime green. Very retro looking and chic. Two computers are available for use in the lobby and printing is complimentary. A continential breakfast is served each morning and consists of cereal, fruit, juice, coffee and assorted pasteries. The rooms are small (I was glad that I was alone) but beautifully decorated in the same retro colors that were used in the lobby. All rooms have a large flat-screen television with all the cable channels, a refrigerator, microwave and wet bar with glasses, plates and utensils. One of the best features was the bed. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable and covered with a down comforter. The air-conditioner was a window unit that worked well for half of the room. The bathroom didn't have a tub but a nice shower. Ice machines are on every other floor that are serviced by two elevators. The fitness center is small, having about four various types of cardio equipment, free weights and floor mats but it is open 24 hours per day. They also have a small pool. Valet parking is the only way to park at the Coconut and the staff is very efficient in having your car ready to pick up after you request it by calling from your room. Perhaps the best thing about the Coconut is the staff. Because it's a small hotel, the staff knows your name, greets you when you come in after a long day of activities and offers to assist you in any way that they can. For the price, and wonderful service, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Excellent choice”

Excellent stay for business. I traveled with a co-worker and stayed at the Coconut for four nights. I travel a moderate amount each year for work and pleasure.

The Coconut is slightly off the beaten path, but by no means is it out of the way. It is easily within walking distance of all the tourist spots and beach in Waikiki.

The rooms are newly renovated, very clean, and refreshingly modern. We each had one of the Executive Suites. Very well done. Not sure what mattress and linens the hotel uses, but it was in the top two best hotel beds I have ever slept in. I enjoyed sleeping here. The only two downsides were trouble with the in-room wireless (supposed to be resolved in August) and there was no desk. I would recommend the hotel find a suitable work surface in the Executive Suites -- there is certainly enough room.

Far and away the highlight, however, was the staff. By far some of the nicest people we met in Hawaii. After the first two days the front desk team figured out our schedule and had our car waiting for us (valet parking only). We didn't have to ask. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Larissa was particularly helpful when we had a mixup with our bills. After we returned home we called up to get help with our bills and she made sure that we were taken care of -- we were.

I would stay here with my family. The rates are great. The hotel is close to the beach. I was able to go for an early morning run around Diamond Head (6.5 miles). Work is work even if it is Hawaii. The Coconut was a great place to end the day during my stay.

Welcoming hospitallity. Most comfortable pillows and mattress ever( even better than the "sweet sleepers of the Sheraton/ Westin chain. What brand pillows were used, I would love to buy them.
Clean , charming, pretty room. Balcony overlooking the canal. Good sized room with microwave and fridge. Bathroom was new and spotless.
Great breakfast with delicious coffee muffins, hardboiled eggs, bagels, yogurt, cereal etc,
