“Loved our #608 condo”

ResortQuest Mahana at Kaanapali

We truly enjoyed our home-away -from-home at the Mahana. Our children loved the pool as well as the hot tub and we enjoyed grilling steaks at the numerous BBQ pits available. The views from front balcony (overlooking the majestic mountains) to the balcony (gorgeous sunsets) are just unbelievable. The condo was clean and maid service was available on a daily basis. However, this place is situated in west Maui which is somewhat far if you want to head to Heleakeala or to the town of Hana. Moreover, if you plan on taking any tour, we suggest you go on-line and book yourself and save some money instead of going thru the local Expedia agent on-site. One more note, a good book to take along on this trip is Hawaii for dummies!

“Unit #804 was Heavenly”

We stayed at the Mahana from 7/24-8/1 and absolutely loved it. We booked unit #804 direct from the owner www.mahanarental.com. He was super easy to work with and the condo is absolutely gorgeous. Recently remodeled in 2005 with bamboo floors, granite countertops in the kitchen, stainless steel appliances and a beautiful walk-in shower. The kitchen was fully stocked and the grills by the pool were immaculate. We grilled twice and were able to eat leftovers too- something we really missed when we got to the Moana on Waikiki. We went grocery shoppnig at the Star Market right behind the condo the first night, and there is a Safeway grocery store ~10 minutes away.

It is windy, but it didn't bother us as it made the heat bearable. The smoothie cart by tthe pool was nice.

While on Maui, we drove to Ka'anapali Beachwalk daily to run in the mornings and were able to find free parking near the Westin (there was a small lot that fit about 11 cars, and we were there around 7am when it opened and always got a spot). Then we'd eat breakfast back at the condo and set out for the day. We spent one day at Ka"anapali Beach near the Shearton and snorkeled around Black Rock, then went back that night to the Hula Grill for dinner- had good seats to watch the sunset. Drove to Haleakala to watch the sunrise and left the condo at 3:00 am- glad we didn't leave any later as by the time we got to the summit (~5:15) the top lot was nearly full. Went back to the condo and spent the day by the pool, then went to the Old Lahaina Luau at night. We parked right at the Luau and had traditional mat seating- I booked this several months in advance and we were literally the first two seats by the stage. A great night. Sunday we drove ~25minutes north of the condo to the Nakalele Blowhole and Honolua Bay to snorkel, then went to Napili Beach for the day. We grilled out that night. Monday we drove the Road to Hana and left the condo at ~5:30 so we were on the Hana Hwy by 7am. We didn't have any traffic pressuring us from behind this way. Stopped at the Black Sand Beach and several waterafalls on the way, got to 7 Sacred Pools and were able to get in briefly before we had to get out as it was raining further up the mountain and the rangers were warning of possible floods. Didn't have to tell us twice! Then we hiked the Pipiwai Trail ~1hr 15min to the 400 ft waterfall at the end, and also saw the Infinity pool feeding another waterfall about half way in to the hike. Beautiful bamboo forest. Take your ticket from Haleakala Sunrise as this is part of the same park and you won't have to pay again, but only good for 2 days I think. That night we ate from Okazuya (sp?) take out right down the road from the Condo and had great Ono and Maui Onion Burger. Tuesday we went to Molokini with Four Winds II- great experience on the boat, but snorkeling a little disappointing after Honolua Bay. Very little variety in fish species and not many to see period. Stopped at "Turtle Town" on way back ot the harbor and saw several turtles near the boat. Went to Big Beach (Huge-but kind of bigger shore break- knocked me over a few times!) from there past Wailea for the rest of the day, and grilled out that night at the condo. Wednesday we stayed a tthe Mahana byt the pool, then left for Lahaini around 2:30, walked around and shopped, saw the Banyan tree, and went to Warren and Annabelle's Magic show. Very funny (clean) and great magic. Worth it for an evening out. Ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise after for a late dinner ~9pm and didn't have to wait at all. Thursday was our last full day in Maui and we went to Wailea Beach, walked around the shops at Wailea, and then went back to Big Beach. Ate our leftovers that night and packed to go to Waikiki that night.

Overall, we loved the Mahana and would love to go back again when we make it back to Maui someday. We don't mind driving and exploring, so it didn't bother us that the beach in front of the condo wasn't swimmable- just walk south ~100 yards and from there to BlackRock you can swim. We loved the "home away fro home" feeling and having the space a condo allows over a hotel room. Very clean facility and frendly staff.

TripAdvisor.com Review

ResortQuest Mahana @ Ka’anapoli

Well better late than never! I booked this property in June 2007 for a February 2008 vacation. We had never been to Hawaii before and only wanted two things from the vacation, comfortable accommodations and whale watching opportunities. We chose the Mahana over all the other options, as ALL the suites are ocean view and guests are only a few steps from the beach.

I booked our stay directly through ResortQuest. I requested an upgraded 1 BR/1 BA suite for 5 nights. The cost was $320 for the first two nights and then $384 for the next three nights. Our stay was near Valentine’s Day, so not sure if that affected the prices or not.

Guest Services was very friendly and informative! Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a 2BR/2BA suite at no additional charge. Suite #419. I was worried the view from the 4th floor would be hindered by the palm trees, but was assured we could change if we wanted. The room was spectacular! It was tastefully decorated and we felt at home immediately as the owners had some art on display by Walfrido, that we currently have in our own home. We had three types of views from this suite. We had an ocean view from the living room and master bedroom; a garden view from the living room and dining room and a mountain view from the second bedroom. Suite 419 is located in the Lanai Tower at the end of the property (see attached photo) and is closest to the construction. We did hear a faint beep-beep every once in a while, but never before 9am or after 5pm. I loved having the extra bedroom and bathroom, which we primarily used as a dressing room.

The property was easy to find with a mapquest map printed prior to leaving for the trip.
We did stop at the local K-Mart for food, but did not purchase anything there as there really wasn’t that much food. We would stop there for some souvenirs on the way to the airport. We did purchase our initial food at the Safeway (yes we got a Savers card)..but we found we could get food at the local Star Market (within walking distance from the hotel) at the same prices with better selections.

We rented a car (2008 Pontiac Grand Pix) from Avis. Parking was free at the hotel and most other places. We only paid for parking once in Lahaina. We had reservations at Ruth Chris and I didn’t want to walk to far in the heels.

Most of our meals we cooked ourselves. Breakfast and lunches mostly. We did enjoy a dinner at Ruth Chris for our 28th anniversary. Also went to Bubba Gump one evening. Our table there was over the water and it was a little “too stinky” for my taste. Our last evening we ordered pizza from Pizza Paradiso and brought it back to our suite and ate it on our lanai. Our favorite local find was Alexander’s Fish and Chips – 1913 S Kihei Road, Kihei. Lots of locals there, not a fancy place, but everything we had was excellent!

We chose visiting Maui in February to see whales and we saw them everyday! We could see them with binoculars from our lanai. We could see them as we drove along the coast line and we saw them up close and personal on the whale watch tour through the Pacific Whale Foundation. We even had a longer tour, because 2 playful juvenile males thought the boat was fun to explore. The boat operator could not move the boat because the whales were in such close proximity. At one point I was on the lower level of the boat and could have reached out and touched one. Wow, what a thrill!

Other things we did: Maui Tropical Plantation, Maui Ocean Center, Old Lahaina Luau and the Temptation Tours “Road to Hana Tour”

Overall, this vacation was a tremendous success. The accommodations were wonderful, the weather was perfect and the whales were plentiful. I can’t wait to book this hotel and the same suite for our next trip to Maui!

“Excellent value - But Construction Next Door”

The room was exceptional, a one bedroom on the sixth floor of the south building. We felt the owners of the unit we stayed in had excellent taste and the unit had been very nicely upgraded. We looked at two other units (in an attempt to distant ourselves from the construction noise) and this unit was far better than the first somewhat better than the second. Had we stayed at the first other unit, we would have been very disappointed.

Construction is going on next door on a series on new condos which means we had to contend with the "beep...beep...beep" of vehicles backing up and other construction noise from around 6 am to late afternoon. In the room with the a/c on full the noise was hardly noticeable. However, the pool and the beach to the south (airport beach) were another story; it was quite noticeable and far from relaxing. For us, we made the unit work by finding other places to be, and in Maui that isn't difficult (sightseeing, other beaches, sailing, etc). The value for the room we stayed in offset the distraction. You would be hard pressed to find a full ocean view one-bedroom unit with a full living room and kitchen. The window on this unit encompassed the entire wall with views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai in the distance.

This Condo is an experience in luxury beyond description. Every corner expresses beauty and the atmosphere invites relaxation and solitude. The ocean views are as if you are floating on the water and surround the living and sleeping areas. Although we had nine days in this dream atmosphere we felt like we had a month away from our busy lives. We have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world but feel that the Mahana is a true find and we'll go back often.
