My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel for 2 nights in December 2007. Prior to booking I joined the free Sofitel Privilege scheme which meant that we were entitled to a complementary late check out (4pm) and a free drink in the hotel bar.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was small but had a high vaulted ceiling which made it feel more spacious. Although there was no view, we liked the room as it felt cozy and the beds were extremely comfortable. Another plus point was that the air conditioning unit was quiet and there was no noise from the corridor even though the hotel was busy. The decor throughout the hotel was quite dated and not what I was expecting from a Sofitel. We didn't have breakfast as we felt it was over-priced.
The location is very good - just a short walk from both the station and Dam Square.
We've been to Amsterdam several times before and would definitely stay at the Sofitel again as it feels more like a family run hotel than part of a big chain.
