They made dreadful mistakes with our booking - a good job we phoned them before we arrived - they only had us down for 1 night rather than the 3 that had been paid for. OK looking hotel, modern rooms but very poor quality. Not at all practical and there was a glass sliding door (that had come out of its runners so just hung there and banged when you moved it) between the bedroom and the toilet. Everything else was just about OK. Because of the modern rotunda style of the hotel the bedroom windows were definitely not designed to look out of. They were extremely narrow and poky.
Location just about OK. Wouldn't want to be walking around there late at night though. Use a cab.
The package we had included F1 Grand Prix tickets and coach transfers. The hotel denied all knowledge of this and from that point on just lied to us. Once we proved the booking they told us they would be getting the tickets but that there was no coach transfer. We were then told to just turn up at the racetrack with our voucher (that would have been fun!!!) and they would let us in (no they wouldn't have and we would have spent over an hour and a half getting to the track). As the whole thing had been booked by El Corte Ingles department store, we decided to go there and they sorted it out. It became extremely apparent that if front of desk and the administrators behind the scenes don't know the answer to something, they just make it up. The tickets were at a sister hotel and there was a coach coming but they just didn't know about it. A very stressful time and a waste of one of our precious days trying to sort it out. Even without this problem the front of house are awkward and obstructive. Very poor customer service.

Pros:

+ Nice first impression of this hotel lasted 5 minutes.
+ Basic hotel with ok soundproof in room.
+ Non-smoking room hadn´t any smoking issues (smels).
+ Buffet breakfast was average, not as good as in Tryp Apolo.

Cons:

- Basic amenities in room.
- Desing; at room and in other facilities
- Location, 1.2km walk to bus, tram and to shopping centre.
- Surroundings
- Average and boring "desing" hotel.
- Hard beds.
- Expensive room rate for value and location.
- Small wardope for two persons.
- No storage for luggages, put them against wall in room
.
Allthought this is a "design" hotel, there are several functional issues that I must review. First of all I have not got for decades water on my clothes from bathroom sink in my room and in lounge toilet. They indeed are fancy looking, but the usage of them is not. Water allways came towards to you to front corner of sink causing inconvienent looking to suit and trousers. Not functional design.
And in my pictures you can see two plastic design chairs, but imagine to relax in them after long sightseeing city day or just enjoy a drink from the table. Without lumbar and back support. As there are no living room chairs to relax.
Room itself had shabby textile panels at wall behind kingsize bed, there were at every where signs of consuming and worn down furnitures and that Flat Screen LCD TV on working table is remarkably small to watch.
Hotel service was okay, location is not that good with surroundings. And it´s 1.2km walk to Diagonal Mar shopping centre and for better traffic connections. As this hotel is bit isolated from Barcelona. If you want to stay in this region, book Princess, AC-Hotels, Hilton etc hotel from Diagonal Mar center area.

“Great modern hotel for a fantastic price”

Vincci Condal Mar

Apr 11, 2008

Stayed here for just one night at the beginning of April. Alot of the other reviews say it is in a bad area, but I really didn't see that! It is literally 100m away from a very nice redeveloped area, and less than a 10min walk to the beach.
Me and my partner arrived late in Barcelona, and decided to walk to the hotel from the bus station in order to get our barings. It is quite a long walk (50mins roughly), but a really great thing to do in order to see some sights that the tourists dont usually see.
When we arrived, check in was quick and painless, and the room was really really nice. Fantastic modern design with all the little extras you could want.
In order to get around barcelona, me and my partner opted for the bus turistic. It has a stop not too far from the hotel and goes virtually everywhere. Well worth it for a short visit.

I wish I had spent longer at this hotel. I also wish I had been there in may when the swimming pool on the roof is open. Overall, this is a fantastic hotel for the price (we paid £47 for the room) Dont be put off by the distance from the centre, there are many many transport options.

“Good Hotel...Tough to find...”

Vincci Condal Mar

Mar 25, 2008

Overall it was not a bad experience. I will admit that I spent 20 hours flying and then arriving in Barcelona late at night just o catch the last train to the city centre and then cabbing it from there. The cab ride did cost about 20 Euros but I was hot, tired and sweaty and would have paid twice that. Even the cab driver had a bit of difficulty finding the hotel.

Arrived thankfully just before a tour bus and after a little trouble at the front desk with my reservation was up to my room. The rooms have a truly modern design, if you look very closely the wormanship does leave a little to be desired but nothing ghastly. I stayed for 3 nights and received a good deal through a website. Had a nice room on the lower floor, spacious and clean.

I have read the other reviews of the neighborhood being dodgy, it is not overly bad. If you are a female travelling alone maybe it would be questionable but as a late 20's male by myself I never felt unsafe. The rooftop pool is pretty amazing and busy during the day as well. I had breakfast in the restaurant all three mornings and if you are looking for the typical amercian breakfast this is not for you. Very European with cold meats and cheese's and different breads with some hot items as well...personally I loved it!

The walk to the city centre is a bit of a distance but not out of the questions, if you are a young group or couple it is a stylish hotel.

Appearances can be deceptive, this is a poor hotel.
We should maybe have known things were not going to be good when the taxi driver told us that this hotel is just on the edge of a "very dodgy area", but being from London we are used to dodgy areas so this didn't phase us...
We were first given a very substandard room, very dusty, bathroom door handle hanging off, light fittings not screwed in, chipped furnishings throughout... although we had booked through a travel website we were still paying a significant amount of money and so complained and were offered a new room (next door) which was the same style but of a significantly better quality, which led us to believe that the room we had was reserved for the particularly stupid...
Apart from this, the hotel is FAR from the centre of Barcelona and you will be obliged to take public transport for at least quarter of an hour (after a ten minute walk) to get anywhere near where you would want to go... can you afford to be wasting a one-hour round trip of your precious holiday time?
We thought we were being clever by saving a little money staying further out but the constant taxi fares of ten to an unbelieveable eighteen euros (if they felt like taking an unfeasably long route) add up. Five nights of these cabs took its toll on the pocket.
The little piece de resistance for this hotel, apart from the fact that after asking for a late 2pm checkout we were called no less than five times after midday by the reception to remind us to get out, the maid thought it would be nice to steal five euro from us. I know, we should have put it in the safe but it was stolen just the same.
I've stayed in some dodgy quarters in Barcelona but never knowingly had stuff stolen from me before but I guess there is always a first time.
So, my advice would be, stay somewhere else. Stay central and save on cab fees.
Ask yourself - why does this hotel have lots of rooms free in busy periods when the rest of Barcelona is jam packed?
