Like a lot of people I chose this hotel after it was recommended by Samantha Brown on The Travel Channel. Overall it was a good experience. The hotel isn't luxurious, but I have learned that in Europe luxury costs a lot more than 109 Euros a night.
The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable and had all of the basics that most would need, including a kettle and cups for tea or coffee. The bed was quite comfortable by hotel standards, and the linens were clean. The TV was high up and attached to the wall, which I am not crazy about, but there were several channels, all with decent reception.
The bathroom was clean with a combined tub/shower. Normally I prefer stand alone showers, but in Europe these tend to be quite tiny, so I actually don't mind a tub with shower. Be aware that this hotel provides very little in the way of toiletries.
The prices in the restaurant are quite high, which is a little strange. I would think that the restaurant is beyond the budget of a good percentage of the people staying here. Although Dublin as a whole is very expensive, I found the prices of the Bewley's restaurant rather ridiculous and ate elsewhere.
The one big negative about this hotel is that you are quite aways from the action. Samantha Brown gives you the impression that this hotel is a reasonable walk from the city centre. Not really. I did not try to walk it, but I'm guessing it's at least a good 30-40 minutes to walk from this hotel to the Grafton Street or Temple Bar area.
There is a DART (commuter rail) station a few blocks away, and they sell multi-use passes. That's how I got around during my stay. The negatives with that are that it's an added expense in an already frightfully expensive city, and the operating hours and frequencies of the DART are rather limited compared to say, the London tube. There were a couple of times when we had to get a cab because the DART schedule made it impossible for us to get where we needed to go by the time we needed to be there.
Of course the positive thing about the location is that it is residential and very quiet, which can be a welcome change from the city centre hotels, which tend to have a lot of noise from traffic and drunken revelers.
As mentioned, the Aircoach stops in front of the hotel. Be aware that the Aircoach doesn't really keep to their published schedule, at least in my experience. Allow a lot of time as you may be standing in front of the hotel for awhile waiting for a coach to come.
I do have to agree with the reviewer who talked about arriving on very early flights from the U.S. They do not make a great effort to find you a room, and there's really nothing to do in this area, certainly not early in the morning. So be prepared to lay around in the lobby for several hours.
All in all, I would stay here again. I do wish it was a bit more convenient, but overall it's a good value for the money, which in Europe is nothing to sniff at.
