We really loved the day at the Stampede....
The best advice i can make is to stay somewhere where you can take the C train. We made the beginner Stampede attendee mistake of driving into the stampeded. As soon as we reached the Stampede grounds we realized our mistake and headed back to the hotel. Taking the C train is definitely the way to go, especially if you are lucky enough to stay near its route. We stayed at the Econo-lodge (although not the greatest hotel in Calgary - it was near the C-train) We boarded the C train at 10 PM. The train ride in went very well and we soon found ourselves at the stampede enjoying the sights. There were a zillion or so people doing the same.
We especially liked the agricultural area. Since this had more interesting things. The rest of the stampede grounds were very similar to Summerfest/Wisconsin State fair. The agriculture area had buildings that were very western and then inside the building there was a lot of animals and things to look at. By the end of the night, we had seen all of the stampeded grounds.
The rodeo began at 1:30 we grabbed a hamburger. The Beef was excellent – the best hamburger I have ever had. We got into the rodeo area at about 1 PM. We were very happy that we did this… When we sat down, we realized that an advertised pre-show had began. They had military people hang gliding into the rodeo field and then the stampeded cowgirls on horseback paraded around… it was very fun to watch.. We remembered this, and did the same for the night show, showed up an hour early for that pre-show.
The rodeo was very fun to watch they had many different events.
The nighttime entertainment was also spectacular… we got there early and saw the marching band, and the cowgirls on horseback. The chuck wagon races were also very fun to watch. I particularly enjoyed the nighttime entertainment. It certainly, with out question, was Vegas caliber… I will never forget the words of the main theme song of it. “one Star” and Cowboy skies” the show even had evil canvile like motorcyclists, a ton of fireworks during and after the show… and many other things…
The show was an excellent way to end a very EXCELLENT vacation…
