If you want to stay in this area this is a great place. It is reasonable and you can do some of your own cooking. There is a grocery nearby and you overlook a river. It is extremely well cared for and very clean.

We found we could not get lost as we could always find the river!

There is a city market across the street (souvenirs-nothing high priced) and some great art galleries and restaurants nearby.

The amazing thing is that it is VERY quiet. You hit the street and it is noisy but the apartment isn't. There are a few dogs that bark but Mollie was trying out a non bark collar that should remedy that very quickly. They only bark when someone is coming or going --so it did not bother me and they never did bark at night.

If you dislike high rises, crowds, and really want to have some alone time- this is great. Mollie is helpful when you need it.

Some restaurants that are excellant but pricey-,
The Red Cabbage (cash only) 55.00 for 2
Meztizo --77.00 for two

This is a charming place to stay on the Rio Cuale river that is truly authentic Mexico. It has a beautiful view of the river. The flats are well appointed and spacious. If you want to get a great experience in the real part of old Vallarta, stay here. If you want the golf experience, and don't want to leave the "compound" - then stay north of town.

We have been staying at Casa Del Puente for years. Mollie really takes care of us whenever we visit. Not only is this one of the great hidden values, but it is central to all area in PV. You can walk everywhere from here.

We will continue to come back and stay in this lovely place by the river.

Stayed here with my mother and sister for two nights. Wished it were longer so we could have taken advantage of everything the two-bedroom apartment offered, like the kitchen, the wonderful patio, all the magazines and books, etc. Mollie is a charming, helpful, irreverent, funny hostess and I bet she has a million great stories to tell. I just wished we weren't passing through so quickly.

The apartment is large, tastefully furnished with great antiques and has terrific "flow." We peeked at the other apartment and I think it is even prettier! One could be really comfortable here as an extended stay, as there is a kitchen, tv, boombox, multiple patios, and a very central location.

I imagined that this is what old, classic Puerto Vallarta must have been like, back in the Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton era! It's still rustic in that there is an open-air quality to the place, and you're likely to see an opossum scurry by on the patio railing in the evening or see a geko on the ceiling beam. But you also get to hear the rushing water on the Rio Cuale river & the singing of the birds in the trees. Also look for iguanas in the trees!

Places like this don't seem very numerous. A very unique, quality experience you shouldn't pass up. Also a great value! Cheaper than hotels, expecially if you consider all the square footage, charm and amenities you get.

Mollie, the owner of the casa is a wonderful hostess, she goes out of her way to be a help in finding what ever you may need. The two bed room apartment I rented was beautiful and quiet. I will return for sure.

We spent two weeks at La Casa del Puente in '96. This is a private villa owned by Molly Muir, a long-time PV resident and relative of the American naturalist John Muir. Her home is right on the Rio Cuale, visible from the bridge that takes traffic northbound on Insurgentes.
Access to her villa is through the kitchen of the restaurant La Fuente del Puente. Molly lives in a self-contained suite on the top floor. The rest of the villa has been converted into 3 apartments....ours was a large one with a separate bedroom, large bathroom, full kitchen and separate dining area and a huge open-air living room/patio overlooking the river.....all beautifully furnished. She negotiated a rate that compared favourably with the budget hotel we were going to stay at. The place was kept spotless by Molly's "major domo", with fresh linensand towels, etc. We learned of La Casa del Puente in Lonely Planet. For a really unique experience....one that simply cannot be duplicated staying in a regular hotel... we heartily recommend La Casa del Puente.
