I enjoyed the old Mexico feel of the Hacienda. Sure the beds are hard and it's tough to lug 50lbs of scuba gear up four flights of stairs. The pool is nice. I agree with a previous reviewer that the street to the beach is an embarassment but maybe out of the hotel's control. My biggest complaint has to do with the all-inclusive policy if you're not included. Like Isabella007 I was offended to be branded with a red bracelet which basically was a signal to the staff that I could go on the property but get nothing else. Isabella007 seems to suggest that you could go to the front desk and buy a ticket to get a drink. I couldn't even do that. My only option was to buy a ticket for unlimited drinking for the day (for $25). It didn't extend to the next day, you would have to pay another $25 for a drink tomorrow. As a scuba diver I only wanted one or two drinks, not unlimited but that was simply not an option. I asked once about breakfast and that was $12.50 even though all I wanted was a bannana, a muffin and coffee. So, I never went to the restaurant for dinner because I assummed it would be a hassle like everything else my scarlet letter (AKA - red bracelet) brought me. I enjoyed the pool for swimming but felt excluded from the scene because I couldn't buy a drink at the pool bar like everyone else. Now, the grocery store is right next door and the bus is $0.55 to get downtown so it's perfectly easy to fend for yourself but it doesn't quite feel like you're part of the hotel.
I would stay here again if the policy was changed to allow non-inclusive guests to buy drinks and meals ala carte for a reasonable price, otherwise, it feels too unfriendly and I would probably try somewhere else first.
If anyone from the hotel reads this, I recommend the followng change in policy to serve your non-inclusive guests. Sell drink tickets at the front desk. You could set a minimum price of $25 for 5,6,7 or 8 (however you want to price it) drink tickets that can be used anytime during the stay. Also, they never expire so if you have drinks leftover you have a small incentive to book again.
