My friend and I just got back from a interesting week in Acapulco and had a great experience with the hotel and an experience where we feared for our lives on the tour to Taxco.
First the positive....The hotel was wonderful and the staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is great for a relaxing getaway and you get to use all the amenities at the Fairmont Princess as well. The spa was wonderful and my masseuse Cecilia was the best. The rooms are extremely clean but the water pressure is not that great and the water is not very hot if you like hot showers as I do. Be sure to sign up for the President's club so you will get internet connection for free and a discount on your spa services and golf. If you are looking to be close to downtown Acapulco, this is not the hotel for you since it will cost about $30 round trip each time you decide to go to the downtown area and renting a car costs about $70 a day. The sand at the hotel beach is much softer than the beaches in the bay area, which feels like small pebbles under your feet but the water is not as nice. If you book any trip through the hotel go through Jorge...he is the sweetest man and will make sure you have the best tour guides (unfortunately we didn't so our experience was dreadful)
Now the scariest experience of any trip I've ever been on....We decided to take a tour to Taxco, which is a town three hours away through Maritur travel agency at the hotel........On the trip to Taxco the tour guide (Gabrielle) decided not to fill up the gas tank and had to borrow 50 pesos from the passengers in the van so he could put some gas in the van. While we had free time in the city our tourguide decided to become extremely intoxicated and almost killed us on the way back. Part of the trip to Taxco is an extremely windy road that has cliffs on both sides and when attempting to return to Acapulco he was swerving and driving in the middle of the windy road and on more than one occassion swerved the car to avoid incoming an oncoming traffic. To top it off we were almost out of gas so he was coasting the whole way down the hill in Neutral. When we got to the bottom of the hill we stopped at a gas station thinking that we were getting gas, instead the driver dropped us off and told the attendant rather than the passengers in the van that he was too drunk to drive us back to Acapulco, which is 3 hours away. We had to take a cab to the bus depot and take the bus back into town and then take a cab from the bus depot to our hotel. Maritur travel agency refunded our money for the tour and transportation costs and bought us dinner. They also said that they fired this tour guide but if your tour guide is named Gabrielle I would think twice before getting in that van.
