My girlfriend and I vacationed at Couples Negril from August 4 through August 9. It was a terrific and relaxing vacation for the both of us.
The ride from MoBay Airport to the Couples resort is approx. 90 minutes. Our driver actually told jokes and gave us a little history of the surrounding countryside.
Upon arrival at Couples, we were greeted with warm towels and champagne. We checked in and our rooms were ready within minutes.
We stayed in Room 2308. It was very nice - king size bed, comfortable mattress, plush pillows, flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, and mini-bar fridge stocked with water, beer, and soda. We both got a kick that the bottled water brand name is called "Wata" :)
As an all-inclusive resort, Couples is among the best in the world. The beach is simply awesome. The sand is clean and white, with no rocks to hurt your feet. The water is clean, green, warm, and calm with no waves that knock you over, because you're on the bay.
There is plenty of room on the beach. You never feel crowded. The lounge chair cushion also doubles as a flotation device in the water. One thing to keep in mind is that there are jelly-fish in the bay. My girlfriend got stung by a jelly-fish, and so did a few others. We went to the nurse and were informed that they are not poisonous. The nurse put cortisone cream on the wound. To be honest, I was not at all aware that there would be any jelly-fish, but obviously there are.
The pool is awesome - nice size with jacuzzis on both ends. There is a swim-up pool bar too.
The service was very good. The Jamaican people are very friendly in general. The drinks at the bars are awesome. My favorite drink was the "Dirty Banana" - so yummy! There ar four bars - one at the beach grill, one at the main restaurant, one at the pool, and one at the piano bar (open in the evening). The liquor is good quality and they make pretty much anything you want.
The food was excellent. There are four restaurants to eat at. The breakfast buffet at the "Cassava Terrace" was delicious - especially the made-to-order omelette station, fresh fruits, and wide-assortment of pastries. Lunch was best at the beach grill, called "Heliconia Grill", where they have jerk chicken, burgers, pizza, salads, nachos, and cookies. Dinner was best at the fine-dining restaurant, "Otaheite", and the Asian restaurant, "Lychee". You have to make reservations for Otaheite and dress more formally (no sneakers, sandals, shorts, t-shirts, etc. Unless you are on your honeymoon, they will probably seat you with several other couples at a table, which is actually pretty cool because you get to meet new people. Lychee was also very good. They play Asian techno music in the background. Friday night is lobster night at all the restaurants.
We didn't do much of the optional water activities, such as the catamaran cruise or the glass-bottom boat tour. We were more content with just chilling on the beach and by the pool. We did go on the optional shopping trip into town and got some nice souveniers to bring back home.
Overall, this was an excellent vacation and I highly recommend Couples Negril. "Yeah mon - no worries - everything is IRIE (good) :)
