“Great Location ... 2nd Time”

Coco Reef Resort Bermuda

This was our 2nd stay @ Coco Reef for 5 days, 4 nights! We were here last year in May and our experience is very similar. We have been to Bermuda many times and stayed in large resorts and some other smaller hotels over the years. We came back to Coco Reef because of it's proximity to the beach. It is one of the best locations to be so close to the ocean. But if you're looking for a place with lots of service, sports, activities, entertainment then this isn't the place. We went for a few days of rest and relaxation and that's what we got. The rooms are exactly as posted on their web site ... nothing fancy but nothing to complain about. We had a beachfront room and could hear the waves crashing against the shore and the view from our balcony was outstanding. We did a lot of walking along the beach ... you can walk from Coco Reef to beyond the Coral Beach Club and you could see many people doing the same thing to be right on the ocean with your feet in the water as well as getting some exercise. We had breakfast each morning at the hotel and it was a buffet ... it was more than adequate. In addition you can order eggs prepared fresh and served. We had lunch a couple of days and the food is very good! We ate at Mickey's on the Beach and the Seahorse @ Elbow Beach two other days for lunch and prices are similar, but I think the quality of food @ Coco Reef is better! We went into Hamilton all 4 nights ... a $10+ taxi fare each way. We ate @ the Lobster Pot, Little Venice, Pickled Onion and Portifino ... they were all very good, but as is everything in Bermuda ... the food is expensive. We used the Modern Mart (store at the entrance to Coco Reef) and were able to stock our fridge with beverages. We did get to watch one ocean side wedding this year! The weather was perfect with only a shower late one afternoon into evening. Overall it was a nice vacation and sorry it was so short!

“Great little hotel - just check to make sure no events when you are there”

This is a great hotel if you are looking for a small, quiet property. Each room is adequate (water pressure for showers are pretty bad), clean and spacious. They have decks and all overlook the ocean. Also, located close to hamilton and the bus routes. All in all, this is a great hotel - HOWEVER, when we stayed this year, they had book 5 (FIVE) weddings back to back. That meant, no use of the pool or restaurant patio as well as loud music throughout the evening, for 5 days / nights. Great place to stay, but next time before I book I will ask if there are any events.

Coco Reef Bermuda is a wonderful choice if you are interested in Bermuda. It has the most beautiful view you could ever ask for and the rooms are nice and kept clean. My husband however, found them a bit small for the price. Beware if you don't know this: Bermuda is EXTREMELY expensive. Pretty much everything costs 3X as much as it does in the U.S., except their wonderful bus and ferry system which is very cheap, reliable and clean. If you plan to sightsee you may as well use them, as cabs are expensive (gas in bermuda now is between $7-$8/gal.!) and renting scooters is very dangerous. Several folks (5 we were told)were badly injured using them, including a tourist that was killed just in the week that we were there. Coco Reef provides a very good buffet breakfast with omelette station each morning and we found the dinner there to be fabulous. It is a quiet place though, so if you are looking for a scene you may want to stick with Elbow Beach, next door. The pool is fabulous and we enjoyed their daily tea-time and cookies. Their beach is the hotel's only down side. It's a bit rocky to swim and can be windy to sun on. It's natural beauty is the draw though.
Suggested dining is The Hogpenny in Hamilton: nice pub atmosphere. Mickey's at Elbow Beach was fun and great food. I would suggest stocking your fridge with snacks and cocktails/beer as these things cost a fortune anywhere you go! ($10 per in some places) The best eating bargain we found was at Horseshoe Beach (an amazing must-see beach) at it's surfside deli for lunch one day. As for sightseeing, Crystal Cave is fun and the Aquarium (both for kids). My family and I would definitely return to Coco Reef - we had a wonderful vacation there and I am recommending it.

“Stonington long gone but not forgotten”

My family has stayed at this property many, many times. The Stonington was as amazing as everyone says. However, the last few years were not as good as they could have been. When Coco Reef opened, perhaps expectations were higher because of the new construction in the lobby area. Staff was reduced, turnover was high, and somehow the hotel seemed overwhelmed. The current manager M. Marsden has succeeded creating a smooth running hotel. The staff are all attentive and caring. There are even a few Stonington staff members in the restaurant.

The best thing about the property is the location, on the south shore, close to Hamilton and the bus route. The beach still comes and goes, but the water is beautiful.

Coco Reef has installed new awnings, and the restaurant will serve any meal on the patio if you wish. The restaurant has a static menu with a few specials, I liked the old "menu changed daily", and the "dine around" program, but I understand fewer guests use the Modified American Plan.

I hope management restores the entrance to the pool on the path to the lobby.

We're impressed enough to return in May, and can only hope that the beach returns as well.

I chose this hotel based on the reviews on 'Trip Advisor' and I can say that I was not disappointed at all. My daughter and I wanted a quiet to place to stay for a few days 'chilling-out' and the Coco Reef fitted the bill admirably. It is a very well managed hotel and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful - without exception. The rooms were well presented and kept very clean with plenty of towels. They offer an empty fridge which they invite you to fill up with your own choice of refreshments from the nearby supermarket. Why do not all hotels do this? There is free wireless Internet in the lobby and bar apart from two free pcs in an adjoining office, also offering free Internet.
Frequent busses stop at the end of the access road which is very convenient for getting around the island.
The food was very good as was the choice of drinks at the bar and not too expensive - mind you, we were paying in £s!
The beach is beautiful as is the resort but as it is situated on a fairly steep hill, it would not be suitable for impaired mobility.
I would most definitely return.
