Well I recently returned from a long weekend at the not quite finished Newstead. I think this will again become a lovely establishment. My family used to spend a week or two every spring at the Newstead for many years from the 70's till the 90's, and we were so sad to see it decline. Well we returned to Bermuda last fall for my parent's 40th anniversary, staying out at Pink Beaches, and having heard about the new fractional ownership oppurtunities at the Newstead Belmont Hills, we decided to take a tour. My parents in the end realized how much they loved the location and purchased a 1/6 share in a two bedroom unit. Well their first two weeks were during this February, so I went down to visit. The resort is not yet fully completed at all, with the Lobby, Spa, and Restaurant all set to be finished by April/May. But the main building and some of the cottages and much of the grounds were completed and are looking great. The rooms will be very nice, with options ranging from a standard hotel room to 1 and 2 bedroom suites, all with balconies over looking Hamilton Harbor. There will be a private ferry to take you either into Hamilton, or over the Belmont Hills for the golf course, but for now, Hodgson's ferry service works just as well. The beach atttached to the property is over at Elbow, but it was not quite the right weather when I was there. Hopefully next trip in May I will be able to check that out. All in all it looks like the Newstead will again become a resort worth taking a look at, as the rooms will be rented out on a nightly basis when the owners are not in residence.

I have been going to Bermuda since I was a teenager and sneaking into bars-had been there almost 20 times and stayed in almost every hotel, the Newstead is beautiful!!! Since it is now the only NEW hotel on the island in like 30 years. We used to stay at the original back in the 80's & 90's and always thought it was so cute and quaint, but needed updating. Now it is. Everything is new and top of the line, staff is great!! The restaurant and spa were not open yet but should be by the next time I go in June and I'm sure that will be tremendous also. Great central location-they have own ferry to town across harbour. All rooms overlook harbour and town, so nice to sit on your balcony and watch boats go by. Can't wait to go back!!!
