Reviewing this hostel in terms of other hostels, it has a spectacular location in the heart of the gaslamp district. I'm not talking about walking 4 blocks like most of the other hostels...it's right in the middle of it. On 5th street, walk south for great shopping and eating, and north has most gaslamp nightlife w/ tons of bars and... more

One thing I hate about hotel review sites is when people stay at hostels and expect it to be like a hotel in any way, shape, or form. First of all, before you decide to go hostelling, look it up on the internet to see what you're in for, because it's vastly different from a hotel experience. Due to the... more

Stayed here for 5 nights in a private room with a shared bathroom. This place is a little run down and some parts do need renovating. The staff overall were not good. We were checked in by a boy who looked like he was about 14 and who didnt say two words to us which wasnt a good start. Room... more

I stayed here for about a week. 1st in a private twin room, then in a 4 bed dorm. our private room faced onto the street and it is really noisy out there at night. the dorm room was much quieter. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. they have organized activities Taco Tuesday and a Tijuana tour... more

This place was really big! It is painted bright colors and has a kind of modern decor. The location is great, it's in a safe neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shopping, if you like that. The walk to the Coronado ferry was kinda far, but doable. It is so close to the San Diego Convention Center it was great!... more

I am not usualy one for hostels, but I was looking for somewhere reasonably priced in the Gaslamp area, and I wasn't having any joy finding recommended hotels, so I decided to take a chance on this place. It was really really good value. It is very much a hostel, so no frills, but the room was fine (we got... more

The HI in San Diego exceeded my expectations. It was clean and the atmosphere was cheery. Every common space is freshly painted in a different bright color, from the atrium/sun room to the living room to the internet nook, and the decor gives the place some character. There are info displays, restaurant reviews, sightseeing suggestions, news briefs, and transportation tips... more

Hi, I stayed during Nov 26 to Dec 8 downtown. I had a pretty good [----] time. You can't beat the price. How the hell do you pick up hot san diego babes in all of the different bars??? Hot pin-up like babes. The 2nd floor had a central heating problem, but no sweat since extra blankets on 3rd floor.... more
