We arrived in Huntington Beach and had actually booked at the Howard johnson's( which was a dump). We then went driving around to find a different motel and found the Newport Channel Inn. Stayed for one night. It is no Four Seasons or Fairmont, more like a Mom and Pop Inn which was very friendly, personable, and well run!
