The Hilton Checkers is a small hotel in the middle of the LA downtown financial district If you are looking for the large-hotel experience, than keep looking. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room (804) was tidy and clean, not luxurious, but nice. The photo of the top floor pool on their website is quite misleading: in... more

Unless you must stay in downtown LA, there is no reason to stay at this hotel. It is old, and shows its age. There are only 2 elevators for guests. The water in the shower switches between scalding hot and freezing cold frequently and without warning. Service in the restaurant is slow (but that's OK because the food is overpriced).... more

We were in LA for a wedding and stayed here for two nights after having a simply awful experience at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. This hotel is a great little hotel. It reminds me of places we've stayed in New York. The room is rather small but was perfectly acceptible for our needs. We found the bed comfortable... more

Unfortunately, Checkers is one of the best hotels in down town LA. I say this not because I love it, but because the current choices are so dismal. The Wilshire Grand and the Omni have lovely common areas, but the rooms are tired and worn. Checkers rooms are a tad better but the common areas aren't impressive at all. The... more

Great place to stay with family, the hotel is awesome, the rooms are large. The staff was wonderful and helpful. I asked for direction to the airport they printed it out and reviewed it very carefully making sure I understood. The food was great, and I love the bar. more

We've stayed at this hotel several times before and always found it a good value. We enjoy staying at smaller boutique-style hotels and there are very few options in this category in downtown Los Angeles. Our rate was very good-- $140 a night plus tax. Our room had a king-size bed, very comfortable, firm mattress with high-quality cotton bedding. The... more

I am a Hilton Gold Member. My Sister is a Hilton Diamond Member. To achieve these ranks with the Hilton affinity program, you have to stay at a LOT of Hilton Properties per year. We have both stayed at the Checkers Hilton in the past when we come to LA for business. This visit, we each paid $250 per night.... more

We attended a Steely Dan concert at the Nokia theatre and stayed the night at the Hilton Checkers. There were four of us in two rooms and all of us agree that everyone we came into contact with at this hotel was extremely nice. Starting with the doorman, the front desk, the maid who ran up the stairs to get... more

Just returned from a four-night stay at this gem of a hotel in LA's downtown financial district and cannot say enough good things about the accomodations or the staff. I was attending a convention at the nearby Westin Bonaventure but wanted a quieter, less impersonal hotel and Checkers was within walking distance (although I used cabs or the hotel's complimentary... more

We stayed at the Hilton for one night on June 29th. We were at the end of an 8 week holiday across the US and had stayed at some basic chain hotels so to have a little bit of luxury at the end was nice. Also we had just spent 4 days on Amtrak so of course we appreciated the... more
